In high school, I was a member of a trash clean up club called Green Artists. After one year of being in the club, I decided to run for president. I became the president for two years until I graduated. As president I set up trash clean up events as well as days to go to nearby parks and kill invasive species such as kudzu. I decided that I wanted the club to have an educational aspect; so, I created slideshows over different forms of sustainability and permaculture. Getting to be a part of this club meant a lot to me as I love spending time outdoors and support any efforts that go towards conserving our parks/ nature in general. I have always had an especially hard time with public speaking; however, being president of this club really helped me strengthen my presenting skills. I learned how to lead a community and be as inclusive as possible to all who wished to attend the meetings. I also got to learn so much more about permaculture and sustainability than I ever would have had I not been the leader of this club. I still do my best to incorporate sustainability practices into my lifestyle and I hope to engage in some form of permaculture farming in the years to come.
